Little Girl Who Needs Our Help – Vote Here

My wonderful friend Ann is a grandma (and a young one, at that!) to the sweetest little darling you could ever meet. When Holly was born, she was about 2 months premature, and her arrival was fraught with complications. What had seemed like a perfect pregnancy rapidly turned into an emergency once she arrived.

Enter Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, one of the best children’s hospitals in the country. Recently, the hospital sponsored a contest, asking past patients’ families to write in and related their stories about their experiences of care received at the hospital. Well, Ginny Evans, Holly’s mom, did just that, and now, she and Holly and among ten finalists, to be voted on at the end of this month.

What follows here is a link to a video about two wonderfully strong females. It is at once uplifting and inspiring. When Holly was born, her chances of survival were at risk. Now, you would never even know that she was at all different from any other 8 year old kid. She is smart, athletic and funny. She is a joy to be around and a blessing to all who know her.

Won’t you vote for this single mom and her daughter and affirm their victory over what was once a debilitating handicap for a very young child? It’s so great to hear a message of hope in these troubling times! We can all vote once per day until October 31st, and then the contest is over.

Please help me celebrate Holly’s success and continuing battle to overcome difference in a world that embraces homogeny.

I give a big thumbs up to Children’s Mercy too. Everyone is really nice there, even the cafeteria workers.

Go Holly! Thanks White Trash Mom and Tacky Princess. I absolutely love the Children’s Mercy site and will recommend it to friends.

I had a front-row seat on this kind of courage when my son was born. He had a misshapen head and had to wear a helmet for nine months — nothing compared to what I saw so many families (like these) go through. Thanks for reminding me how much this experience taught me about how brave and committed these families and their children are.

My business partner and I have started a new website for moms who live in the suburbs, small towns and rural settings. It’s called Out of Bound Moms and it’s just a community for moms to get together and chat about small town or suburban life and hang out in general. There is a social networking community where you can sign up for free and promote your blog. You can start a group page and promote your blog through that. The website has free membership and we don’t sell your info. it just has you sign up so you can have your own page, private messaging and privacy settings for pics and videos. It’s run my myself and my business partner charmaine, both of us are work at home moms who live in a small town. Anyways check out the website and sign up it is a fun and easy way to promote your blog that way you can drive new business to your website.

Very inspiring story. Thank you for sharing it. However I could never vote on something like this. Voting implies that one story is better than another. This contest is a marketing technique–which surprise me since the hospital already has the best marketing campaign of all–happy families and healthy children–seems like everyone has already won a priceless prize.
