Pain Is Still There

My mom’s birthday is June 24th.  She would have been 79 this year, she’s been gone 8 years now.  My dad’s birthday is October 13—-he’s been gone since 1992.

But on the days of their birth, as well as holidays, there is a black hole in my heart.  I still miss them and think about them so much. I am almost 45 years old and on Tuesday (the 24th) I spoke to my "50-something" brother at the end of the workday.  The first thing we talked about was the fact that it was mom’s birthday…and how much we missed her.

Tuesday night my brother and I packed up our kids and went to see the movie "Get Smart".  We laughed a ton. Just like our mom and dad would have wanted us to do.

Yes, I know what you mean. Last Saturday would have been my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Dad’s been gone almost 30 years and mom’s been gone 5. That pain, though, means you also have good memories and that’s a wonderful thing…
